Claus Porto 130 Years chronicles the brand’s history and showcases the unique designs, patterns and labels that have made our company a style icon for the past 130 years. The full-colour, 240 page book has a bilingual text in English and Portuguese and was written and designed by Andrew Howard, a British-born graphic designer, teacher, curator and design writer, based in Claus Porto’s home city of Porto since 1993.
The pages feature illustrations from the company’s vast photographic and design archives. Images range from black-and-white shots of the earliest days, through turn-of-the-century advertising prints and Jazz Age packaging to shots of today’s product range and the landmark Claus Porto stores in Lisbon and Porto. The book follows the brand’s timeline through years of war and revolution, expansion and crisis, from 1900s World Fairs to starring roles on the Oprah Winfrey Show in the 2000s. There are also sections dedicated to Claus Porto’s collection of designs, patterns and labels; to the bottles, boxes and wrappings that hold our products; and a behind-the-scenes look at the production processes.
